Description |
William (Bill) Spenncke (man holding rifle), a WW I veteran and model for the Glen Cove Public Library Doughboy Monument, parades down Glen Street opposite the Cove Theatre. Spenncke, who marched in uniform in the Memorial Day event for six decades, was born in the Landing neighborhood. He served as a mechanic attached to Battery D, 20th Field Artillery and received a Silver Star for heroism. (Caption courtesy of Joan Harrison) |
