Description |
The dozen greenhouses on Elsinore included conservatories for roses, orchids, and carnations as well as exotic species like birds of paradise. They contained one of the most complete plant collections in the country. Elsinore's produce took "firsts" in the Queens County Agricultural Fair and at the Waldorf Astoria Flower show. Beyond the greenhouses were velvet lawns and thick forests of chestnut, oak, hickory, and locust. The Ladew family owned the shorefront from steamboat dock to Pembroke.
