Description |
Elsinore Estate was located just north of Morgan Park in Glen Cove, in what is now the Shorecrest development (2021). It was built in 1855 for actor W.E. Burton. After Burton's death the house was redesigned by British architect Jacob Wrey Mould for the second owner, Thomas Kennard, and was known as the "Glen Chalet." The third owner was the noted NYC railroad attorney S.L.M. Barlow, who renamed the Victorian mansion "Elsinore" after his daughter, Elsie. The next owner of Elsinore was the leather belt manufacturer, Edward R. Ladew. After his death, his wife Louise lived there until her death. It was demolished some time near 1937. The Shorecrest community was developed in the mid 1950s. |
