Description |
View from Glen Cove Trolley and John Street - Glen Cove Trolley swung off Carpenter Street to John Street. Belvedere Hotel, 1908. William Spennecke, father of the World War I soldier who posed for the Doughboy Monument, was another proprietor of this "gentlemen only" establishment. Located on John Street in the Landing, the Belvedere was the last stop for the trolley before it made its way to the dock. In later years, the Belvedere ball team counted members of the Doxey, Cock, and McDougal families among its players. (Caption courtesy of Joan Harrison) . |
