Description |
Pembroke was located on Red Spring Lane. Situated on 46 acres, the mansion had 82 rooms, 60,000 square feet. Large greenhouses and a palm garden house provided tropical surroundings. Mining entrepreneur Joseph R. DeLamar built Pembroke in 1914. It took four years to complete. Born in Holland in 1843 to a French banking family, DeLamar was orphaned at the age of nine. He married Nellie Sands of a socially prominent New York family and had a daughter named Alice. In 1870 DeLamar and his wife divorced and DeLamar never remarried. He died in 1918 at the age of 75. |
