Description |
Alexander C. Humphrey Residence. C.P.H. Gilbert, the favored architect of the Gold Coast "colonists," built this Mediterranean-style villa for Alexander C. Humphrey on Fresh Pond (Crescent Beach) Road. It was then sold to Emmett Queen, a Pittsburgh banker, and in turn to F.W. Woolworth, the five-and-dime magnate. In 1916, soon after Woolworth's purchase, it burned to the ground. The staff was able to carry much of the contents to safety. (Caption courtesy of Joan Harrison) |
