Description |
Dodge Thomas Funeral Home on Franklin Avenue. The business is believed to be the oldest continuing business in New York State. The business was begun in 1816 as a wheelright business for a Brookville farmer. Then the company went on to make furniture as well as coffins and sold them in a shop on Glen Street. The building on Franklin Avenue, which is the present Dodge Thomas Funeral Parlor was originally, in 1894, a storage building for the furniture adjoining the Dodge Homestead. In the 1920s, the funeral business was relocated there. Herbert Dodge died in 1962 at 88 years old. George Thomas had become a partner in 1946 as there were no Dodges to carry on the business. Guy Minutoli and his wife Karen bought the business in 1981. He had started out as a chauffer there. |
